Respeto was a collaborative, community-driven, biweekly seminar salon on Spanish language and Hispanx culture that ran from early 2019 to early 2020 in Seattle, WA.
Learning Spanish in the United States today is an act of resistance against racism, xenophobia, and authoritarianism; as well as an expression of solidarity with oppressed immigrant populations and Hispanx communities.
As a pilot project to develop a model of cultural education based on a convivial social atmosphere while learning the Spanish language, Respeto sessions were led by Ximena Arbelaez is a Colombian Spanish-language instructor.
Respeto was conceived by David W Halsell and realized by Ximena Arbelaez, Sarah Leland, Anne Sivley, Brad Muller, Aiken Muller, and David W Halsell.
